We break out, remove and dispose of old concrete driveways, paths and slabs for homes across Casey, Cardinia and Greater Dandenong. Most of the time we pour the new one in the same job, so you deal with one crew from start to finish and don't need a separate demolition contractor. It's part of our concreting in South East Melbourne. Kobir looks at the old concrete on site, works out why it failed and sends a written quote before anything is booked.

What We Remove

The concrete that's failed, and anything in the way of the new pour.

  • Old driveways

Cracked, sunken or broken driveways, taken out down to the soil so the new driveway starts on a proper base.

    New driveways
  • Paths and side paths

Cracked front paths, paths lifted by tree roots, and the side paths along the house.

    New paths
  • Slabs

Old shed slabs, clothesline slabs and backyard slabs that are cracked, in the way, or at the wrong level.

    Plain concrete slabs
  • Pavers

Lifted or sunken pavers, taken up along with the bedding underneath before a new concrete pour.

Why Old Concrete Fails

When the old slab comes up, we look at what's underneath. The cause is usually one of these.

  • A poor base

Soft soil or rubble that wasn't compacted lets the slab sink and crack.

  • Water

Water pooling against or under the slab softens the ground beneath it.

  • Steel in the wrong place

Mesh left lying on the ground does nothing to hold the slab together.

  • Tree roots

Roots growing under a path or driveway lift it and crack it.

  • Too thin

A slab poured as a path that now carries a car.

  • What we do about it

We fix the cause before the new pour: dig out soft ground, compact a crushed rock base, set the steel on chairs and set the falls so water runs away.

How a Removal Job Runs

  1. Measure and check

Kobir measures up, looks at access for machines and trucks, and checks where pipes, cables and stormwater lines run, using Before You Dig plans where needed.

  2. Saw-cut the edges

We cut a clean line where the old concrete meets anything that stays, such as the house, a crossover or a neighbour's path.

  3. Break out

The concrete is broken into pieces with machinery or jackhammers, depending on access.

  4. Load and cart away

The broken concrete and any steel are loaded and taken away.

  5. Fix the ground

We dig out soft soil, deal with roots and compact a new crushed rock base.

  6. Pour or hand back

We pour the new driveway, path or slab, or leave the site clean and level, ready for your next trade.

Dust, Noise and Your Neighbours

Breaking out concrete is the loudest, dustiest part of the job. Here's how we keep it under control.

Concrete removal on site

Dust
Cutting concrete creates silica dust. We cut with water to keep the dust down, and clean up the slurry before it dries.
Noise
Breaking concrete is loud. We keep it to normal working hours and let you know the days so you can tell your neighbours.
Mess
The site is swept and the street cleaned before we leave each day.

Removal and the New Pour in One Job

Doing both in one job means the crew that takes out the old concrete sees the ground the new one sits on. Once the old concrete is out, we pour:

The Crossover Out the Front

The crossover between your driveway and the road belongs to the council. Breaking it out needs the council's permit first, which is the owner's to apply for. See concrete crossovers for how it works in Casey, Cardinia and Greater Dandenong.

Concrete Removal Across South East Melbourne

We remove and replace concrete in three council areas, all within an hour of our Pakenham base. For everything else we pour, see concreting in South East Melbourne.

Concrete Removal FAQs

Can you remove my old concrete and pour a new one in the same job?

Yes. That's how most of our removal jobs run. We break out the old concrete, fix the base and pour the new driveway, path or slab, so you deal with one crew.

Do you remove concrete without replacing it?

Call Kobir and tell him what's going in its place. If another trade is taking over, we can leave the site clean and level for them.

Do I need a permit to remove concrete?

Concrete inside your property usually doesn't need one. The council crossover at the front does, and the permit is the owner's to apply for. We'll tell you at the measure if your job needs one.

How long does concrete removal take?

Breaking out and carting away a typical driveway or path usually takes a day or two, depending on size, thickness and access. If we're re-pouring, the new slab follows over the next few days.

Will it be dusty and noisy?

Breaking concrete is noisy, so we work normal hours and let you know the days in advance. We cut with water to keep dust down.

Where does the old concrete go?

We load it up and take it away, so it doesn't sit in your yard. Broken concrete can be crushed and reused as road base.

What if you find pipes, roots or something else underneath?

We check where pipes and cables run before we start. If we uncover roots or a broken pipe, we stop and talk it through with you before going further. Anything that might be asbestos, such as old fibro sheeting, is left for a licensed asbestos removalist.

Can you remove the crossover at the front too?

Yes, once the council permit is in place. See concrete crossovers for the steps.
