We build new concrete driveways, replace old cracked ones and widen driveways that have become too narrow, for homes across Casey, Cardinia and Greater Dandenong.

Our own crew from Pakenham does every job. Kobir comes out to measure, checks the levels and drainage, and sends you a written quote that lists the base, steel, thickness and finish.

A driveway is the biggest slab on most properties and carries the most weight, so what's underneath matters as much as the finish on top. That's where we spend our time.

What every Skyline driveway quote lists

Base
140–200 mm compacted crushed rock
Steel
SL72 mesh on bar chairs
Concrete
100–130 mm, 25–32 MPa
Falls
Away from the house, to the street or a pit
Finish
Plain, coloured or exposed aggregate

New, Replacement and Widened Driveways

New driveways for new homes

A large share of our driveway work is on new estates in Clyde North, Officer, Cranbourne and Pakenham. We usually pour the driveway, the crossover and the concrete around the house on the same visit, so your levels line up and you deal with one crew.

Replacing an old or cracked driveway

Old driveways crack and sink when the base underneath wasn't compacted, the steel sat on the ground, or water was left to pool. We break out and remove the old concrete, fix the base, and pour a new driveway with the falls set correctly. You don't need a separate demolition contractor.

Widening or extending a driveway

Need room for a second car or a trailer? We cut a clean edge on your existing driveway and pour the extension to the same level, tied in so the two slabs don't move apart. For exposed aggregate, we bring samples to match your existing blend as closely as possible.

What's Under a Driveway That Lasts

A driveway is judged on what you can't see. These are the five things we build into every one, and list on every quote.

Layers of a Skyline concrete driveway, from the crushed rock base up to the finished concreteFalls to the street
  1. Base

We dig out soft soil and lay 140–200 mm of compacted crushed rock, so the slab sits on something that won't move when the clay gets wet.

  2. Steel

SL72 reinforcing mesh sits on bar chairs in the middle of the slab, not on the ground where it does nothing.

  3. Thickness and strength

We pour 100–130 mm of 25–32 MPa concrete, and thicker at the crossover where council standards require it.

  4. Falls

Every driveway drains away from the house, towards the street or a stormwater pit, so water never pools at your garage door.

  5. Joints and curing

We saw-cut control joints after 48 hours, or about a week in winter, so any shrinkage cracks run along the cuts, not across your driveway.

When you compare quotes, check that each one lists these. A quote that only gives an area and a finish leaves the important parts unspecified.

Steep and Sloping Driveways

Plenty of blocks in South East Melbourne slope up or down from the street. On a sloping driveway we:

  • set the transitions at the garage and the street so cars don't scrape;
  • choose a finish with grip, such as broom or exposed aggregate, rather than a smooth trowel finish;
  • direct water into a pit or the kerb, so it doesn't run into the garage or a neighbour's yard.

How Long a Concrete Driveway Takes

Most driveways take 2–4 days on site, then a week or two before the cars go back on.

  1. Day 1

    Dig out and base

Excavation, removing any old concrete, and the crushed rock base.

  2. Day 2

    Forms and steel

    Formwork, falls and steel.

  3. Day 3

    Pour and finish

Pour and finish. For exposed aggregate, we wash off the surface the next morning.

  4. After 48 hours

    Saw-cut joints

We saw-cut the control joints, or after about a week in winter.

  5. Day 7–14

    Cars back on

You can walk on it after a day or two. Keep cars off for 7–14 days, depending on the weather.

Plan view: the driveway runs from the house to the property boundary, and the crossover runs from the boundary over council land to the roadRoadHouseDrivewayProperty boundaryCrossover (council land)

The Crossover at the Street

The crossover is the section between your property boundary and the road. It sits on council land, so it needs a council permit before it can be built, widened or replaced.

City of Casey
The permit is valid for 12 months.
Cardinia Shire
Allows up to 28 business days for approval.

We build to each council's crossover standard and can pour it on the same visit as your driveway.

Concrete Driveways Across South East Melbourne

Concrete Driveway FAQs

Straight answers to what people ask before booking a driveway.

Ask Kobir directly

How long does a concrete driveway take?

Most driveways take 2–4 days on site: excavation and base, formwork and steel, then pour day. Exposed aggregate adds a wash-off the next morning.

When can I drive on my new driveway?

You can walk on it after a day or two. Keep cars off for 7–14 days, depending on the weather, so the concrete reaches its strength before it takes a car's weight.

How thick should a concrete driveway be?

We pour 100–130 mm of 25–32 MPa concrete with SL72 mesh, on a compacted crushed rock base. It's thicker at the crossover where council standards require it.

Will my driveway crack?

All concrete shrinks as it cures. We saw-cut control joints so any cracking runs along the cuts. A compacted base and mesh placed in the middle of the slab keep cracks tight.

Can you widen or extend my existing driveway?

Yes. We cut a clean edge, pour the extension to the same level and tie the two slabs together so they don't move apart.

Can you match my existing exposed aggregate?

Usually, yes. We bring samples to compare against your driveway and order the closest blend. Weathered concrete never matches a new pour exactly, so we'll show you the closest option before we start.

Do I need a permit for a new driveway?

The part on your own land usually doesn't. The crossover between your boundary and the road does need a council vehicle-crossing permit in both City of Casey and Cardinia Shire.

Do you remove the old driveway?

Yes. We break out, remove and dispose of the old concrete as part of the job.
