Local Concrete Contractors for Driveways, Crossovers and Paths Across Casey and Cardinia

A good concreter is mostly judged on what you can't see: the base, the steel, the falls and the curing. That's where we spend our time. Our crew is based in Pakenham, so we know the clay soils, sloping blocks and council rules from Officer to Dandenong.

We work for two kinds of clients:

  • Homeowners who've just moved into a new build and need the driveway, crossover and concrete around the house done in one go.
  • Builders and developers who need a reliable concreter for several lots on the same estate.

Either way, you deal with Kobir from the first site visit to the final clean-up.

Our Concreting Services

We handle every residential concreting job a typical South East Melbourne block needs, from the street crossover to the back fence.

Plain concrete slab

Plain concreting and slabs

Plain concrete is standard grey concrete with a broom or trowel finish, the most practical everyday surface. We use it for shed slabs, garage floors, side paths, bin pads and backyards where looks matter less than function.

Coloured concrete laid by Skyline

Coloured concreting

Coloured concrete has oxide pigment mixed through the whole slab, so the colour won't wear off like a surface paint. Charcoal, slate, cappuccino and terracotta tones match most new facades. It gives a smooth, modern finish with less texture than exposed aggregate.

Concrete path poured around a house

Concrete around the house

Concrete around the house is the strip of path that runs beside and behind your home. It keeps water away from the slab, controls weeds and gives you a clean walkway to the bins and clothesline. We set the falls so water runs away from the house, never toward it. It's usually poured with the driveway on a new build.

Concrete driveways

A concrete driveway is the largest slab on most properties and takes the heaviest load, so we build it thicker and with more steel than a path. We excavate and compact a crushed-rock base, then lay SL72 or SL62 mesh on bar chairs and pour 25–32 MPa concrete at 100–125 mm or 150 mm. Finishes are plain, coloured or exposed aggregate. We also widen existing driveways and match the aggregate to what's already there.

Exposed aggregate concreting

Exposed aggregate, also called pebblecrete, is concrete with the top layer washed off to reveal the stone underneath. It gives a textured, slip-resistant finish that hides tyre marks and dirt. It's the most-requested finish on new estates in Clyde North, Officer and Cranbourne. We'll show you aggregate samples before you choose.

Council crossovers

A crossover, or vehicle crossing, is the section of driveway between your property boundary and the road. It sits on council land, so it needs a council permit before any work starts. We build crossovers to the council's standard drawings for City of Casey and Cardinia Shire, and we can pour them with your driveway in the same visit.

Footpath concreting

We pour concrete footpaths and garden paths in plain, coloured or exposed finishes, with edges set straight and level to meet doors, gates and steps. Paths are thinner than driveways but still need a compacted base and control joints to stop random cracking.

Concrete sleeper retaining wall with steel posts

Concrete sleeper retaining walls

Concrete sleeper walls use precast concrete sleepers slotted between galvanised steel posts set in concrete footings. They're the long-life choice for sloping blocks and level changes beside driveways. Walls over 1 metre usually need engineering and council approval, and we'll tell you at the quote stage if yours does.

Timber sleeper retaining walls

Timber sleeper walls use treated pine or hardwood sleepers between steel or timber posts. They have a warmer, natural look and suit garden beds and lower walls.

Plain, Coloured or Exposed Aggregate: Which Concrete Finish Suits Your Job?

The right finish depends on where the concrete is, how much grip you need, and how it should look next to your house.

Many clients mix finishes: exposed aggregate for the driveway everyone sees, and plain concrete down the side of the house where looks matter less.

What Goes Into a Concrete Driveway That Lasts

A concrete driveway lasts when five things are right under the surface. We don't skip any of them:

Cross-section of a Skyline concrete driveway From the bottom up: natural clay soil, 140 to 200 mm of compacted crushed rock, SL72 mesh on bar chairs, 100 to 130 mm of 25 to 32 MPa concrete with a fall away from the house, and a saw-cut control joint. House Natural clay soil Compacted crushed rock, 140–200 mm 25–32 MPa concrete, 100–130 mm SL72 mesh on bar chairs Falls away from the house, to the street Saw-cut control joint
  1. Base

We dig out soft soil and lay 140–200 mm of compacted crushed rock, so the slab sits on something that won't move when the clay gets wet.

  2. Steel

SL72 or SL62 reinforcing mesh sits on bar chairs in the middle of the slab, not on the ground where it does nothing.

  3. Thickness and strength

We pour 100–125 mm or 150 mm of 25–32 MPa concrete for driveways, and thicker at crossovers where council standards require it.

  4. Falls

Every slab is set to drain away from the house and toward the street or a pit, so water never pools at your door.

  5. Joints and curing

We saw-cut control joints after 48 hours, or after about a week in winter when concrete sets more slowly, so cracks form in a straight line, not across your driveway. We also keep cars off for 7–14 days while the concrete gains strength.

That's why we put the base, mesh and thickness in writing on every quote. When you compare concreters, check that every quote lists these.

You get an itemised quote listing area, base, mesh, thickness and finish.

  4. Council permit (crossovers)

We tell you what your council needs and when to apply.

  5. Excavation and base

We remove old concrete or soil and compact the crushed-rock base.

  6. Formwork and steel

We box up the edges to the agreed levels and lay mesh on chairs.

  7. Pour and finish

We place, screed and finish the concrete: broom, trowel, coloured or exposed.

  8. Cut, clean and hand over

We saw-cut the joints, wash off exposed aggregate, clean the site and explain curing and sealing.

Council Crossovers in Casey and Cardinia

You need a council permit before a crossover can be built, widened or replaced, because it sits on council land. In the City of Casey, the permit fee for 2026–27 is $364. A permit is valid for 12 months, and work can't start until it's issued. Cardinia Shire lists a $156.30 application fee for 2025–26 and allows up to 28 business days for approval. We build to each council's crossover standard and book the inspection where one is required. Fees change each financial year, so check your council's website before applying.

Concreting FAQs

Straight answers to the questions we hear most. Select a question to open it.

How long does a concrete driveway take?

Most driveways take 2–4 days on site: a day for excavation and base, a day for formwork and steel, and pour day. Exposed aggregate adds a wash-off the next morning. Wait about 7–14 days depending on weather before driving on it.

Do I need a permit for a new driveway?

The part on your own land usually doesn't. The crossover between your boundary and the road does need a council vehicle-crossing permit in both City of Casey and Cardinia Shire.

Can you match my existing exposed aggregate?

Usually, yes. We bring samples to compare against your existing slab and order the closest blend. Weathered concrete never matches a new pour exactly, so we'll show you the closest option before we start.

Do you do concrete for new builds?

Yes. A large share of our work is new homes in Clyde North, Officer, Cranbourne and Pakenham, where the driveway, crossover and path around the house are poured together.

Will my concrete crack?

All concrete shrinks as it cures. We control where that happens by saw-cutting joints so any cracking runs along the cut line. A compacted base and properly placed mesh keep cracks from opening up.

Do you remove old concrete?

Yes. We break out, remove and dispose of old driveways and paths as part of the job, so you don't need a separate demolition contractor.

Do you work with builders?

Yes. We pour for builders and developers across Casey and Cardinia, including multi-lot jobs on the same estate.

How do I get a quote?

Call 0432 155 722 or send the form with your suburb and a rough size. We'll arrange a free site measure and send a written quote.
